What is a sumarni and what size are these beads?

A sumarni is a compact counting mala held in the hand for naam jaap. This one has 27+1 dark brown tulsi beads of a generous 15 to 16mm size, easy to grip and move.

How do I count japa on a 27+1 sumarni?

Pass one bead per naam and turn back when you reach the sumeru bead; four rounds complete the traditional 108 counts. Its handy size lets you chant quietly while walking or travelling.

How do I keep this sumarni in good condition?

Since it lives in your hand, wash and dry your hands before jaap, and keep the mala in a japa bag afterwards. Avoid water, oils and perfume on the dark brown tulsi wood.
