Why are the beads black on this 2-round kanthi?
The black colour comes from the traditional ghee dip given to original tulsi beads, not from paint. The long beads are strung as a double-round kanthi with a rich, even dark tone.
How should this black ghee-dip kanthi be worn?
Wear it over the head and let the two rounds of long black beads settle at the neck. The style suits daily wear and looks especially graceful against light-coloured devotional clothing.
Will the black ghee-dip colour fade?
The tone is set into the tulsi wood by the ghee treatment, so normal wear will not remove it. Simply keep the mala dry, avoid perfume and oil, and wipe it with a soft cloth occasionally.
