Hit Harivansh Mahaprabhu: The Radha Vallabha Acharya

The Radha Vallabha Temple
Hit Harivansh established the famous Radha Vallabha temple in Vrindavan, unique in that it worships Krishna alone without a separate deity of Radha. This is because, in his philosophy, Radha is so intimately present with Krishna that a separate deity is unnecessary—she is eternally united with Him.
The temple follows strict traditional worship standards and maintains the devotional mood established by Hit Harivansh over 450 years ago.
His Literary Contributions
Hit Harivansh composed beautiful devotional literature in Sanskrit and Braj Bhasha:
- Hit Chaurasi – 84 verses describing the path of devotion
- Radha Sudha Nidhi – Glorification of Radha's divine qualities
- Seva Vilas – Describing the eternal service to Radha and Krishna
- Numerous pads (devotional songs) still sung in Vrindavan
His writings emphasize the mood of service (seva) as the essence of devotional life.
The Philosophy of Radha Supremacy
Hit Harivansh taught that:
- Radha is the supreme power and Krishna's eternal consort
- Service to Radha is the highest form of devotion
- The mood of the gopis of Vrindavan represents perfect love
- Seva Kunj and Nidhivan are the most sacred places in Vrindavan
- Complete surrender to the Divine Couple brings spiritual perfection
Seva Kunj: The Sacred Grove
Hit Harivansh's ashram at Seva Kunj is believed to be where Radha and Krishna perform their rasa dance. The grove is filled with ancient trees and has a mystical atmosphere that devotees can still experience today.
According to tradition, no one is allowed to stay in Seva Kunj after sunset, as Radha and Krishna come to perform their eternal pastimes there each night.
His Legacy
The Radha Vallabha Sampradaya continues to this day, maintaining the high standards of devotional worship and the emphasis on service mood that Hit Harivansh established. His descendants still serve the Radha Vallabha deity according to his original instructions.
