The Embodiment of Humility and Devotion
Sri Gopala Bhatta Goswami (1503-1578) was one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan, known for his extraordinary humility, deep scholarship, and the miraculous appearance of the Radha-Ramana deity. His life exemplifies how genuine devotion manifests through selfless service and complete surrender.
Blessed from Childhood
Born in South India, Gopala Bhatta had the rare fortune of hosting Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in his family home during Mahaprabhu's South India tour. Even as a young boy, he served Mahaprabhu with such devotion that Mahaprabhu blessed him and predicted his future role in Vrindavan.
After his parents' departure, Gopala Bhatta traveled to Vrindavan following Mahaprabhu's instruction, where he joined the other Goswamis in their mission.
The Miracle of Radha-Ramana
The most famous event in Gopala Bhatta's life was the self-manifestation of the Radha-Ramana deity. While bathing in the Yamuna, he found some shaligrama shilas (sacred stones). He worshiped them with great devotion, and one day, one of the shilas transformed into the beautiful form of Krishna as Radha-Ramana.
The Radha-Ramana temple in Vrindavan, established by Gopala Bhatta, remains one of the most important pilgrimage sites, where the original deity still receives worship according to his established standards.
